Historic West Sayville

The site of the present day Baymen Soccer Field once held a 500′ tower and transmitting station. The wireless radio station was built in 1911 by the Telefunken Company of Germany. It could transmit messages across the Atlantic Ocean. From 1914 to 1917, it was closely monitored by the US Government. When the US entered World War I it was taken over by the US Government.
